(PRESS RELEASE) – Chairman and founder of Sandals Resorts International, Gordon “Butch” Stewart, was honored this past weekend at the 2017 RJRGleaner Communications Group Hospitality Jamaica Awards with the inaugural Pioneer Award at the Montego Bay Convention Center.

Mr. Stewart was recognized for his hard work, service and dedication to the Caribbean over the years, namely in revolutionizing the all-inclusive concept, creating the most influential brand in the Caribbean and establishing Sandals Resorts as the top private employer in the region.

“Our approach was that we exceeded the expectations of the guests and we put training, training, training at the core of our organization…We believe firmly that Sandals should make things better for Jamaica and the Caribbean,” said the Sandals Resorts founder.

Mr. Stewart was handed the award by Oliver Clarke, chairman of 1834 Limited, in a sign of friendship between the two businessmen. The Sandals Resorts Chairman was supported by his seven children, including Sandals CEO Adam Stewart, and other close family members, staff and friends. He thanked his family and wife Cheryl for the sacrifices they had to make while he built Sandals Resorts into the internationally-known brand that it is today.

In addition to Mr. Stewart’s impressive achievement, Sandals Resorts took home other wins at the awards ceremony, including recognition for Sandals Royal Plantation as the Best Boutique Hotel and Sandals Royal Caribbean for Best All-Inclusive Under 300 Rooms.
