According to a police press release, the men were arrested for animal cruelty and cattle stealing after police discovered seven “high breed” goats – three of them dead – in a vehicle during a routine stop and search operation on Thursday, Nov. 22.
Police said the goats were discovered wrapped in a blue tarpaulin in the trunk of the Honda CRV SUV, registration number PE9014.
The goats were photographed and the dead ones buried, police said.
Prior to the discovery of the animals, officers of the Vieux Fort Police Station received a report of stolen goats.
The discovery was made when officers attached to the Traffic Unit and Task Force were conducting operations within Roseau, Marigot, Anse La Raye and surrounding communities.
During the operations several vehicles were stopped and searched. A number of vehicles were impounded.
One of the vehicles stopped was the Honda CRV with the goats and two men on board.
Investigations into the matter continue.
