PRESS RELEASE – The Government Negotiating Team (GNT) regrets to advise the public that a scheduled meeting between the GNT and the St. Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA) on November 24, 2014, did not take place. The CSA confirmed its attendance at the meeting on Monday, November 17, 2014.
Despite the attendance of some CSA representatives, the absence of a quorum on the part of the CSA did not allow the meeting to proceed.
The General Secretary of the CSA apologized for the absence of key members of the CSA Negotiating Team and stated that despite his best efforts he was unable to contact his colleagues.
Notable absentees were the President and all other elected members except a trustee.
It should be noted that the GNT received no prior notification regarding cancellation of the meeting, at which salaries, wages and allowances would have been discussed.
Given that it is not in the country’s best interest to have protracted negotiations, the GNT is fully committed to continue engagement with the CSA to complete the negotiation process.
It should also be noted that the GNT has successfully completed negotiations on wages, salaries and allowances with the Trade Union Federation (TUF).
