(GIS) – The Minister for Education, Innovation, Gender Relations, and Sustainable Development recently delivered her business month address while at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bonn, Germany.
Within the address the Hon. Dr Gale Rigobert referred to the government’s commitment to ensuring that the nation stays on the path to reducing its use of energy resources.
“The Government of Saint Lucia continues to support the recommendations made in the recently developed National Energy Transition Strategy (NETS). We are most certainly honoured to join the front line in establishing the least cost approach in this new era of integrated resource use and ensuring that our population understands the implications of inefficient use of energy,” she said.
The Minister pointed out that such a move does not come without its challenges.
“The challenge for small island states as ours is whether we can raise the requisite finance to undertake the significant changes that we need to convert our economy from a fossil dependent one, to one which is more reliant on renewable sources of energy.”
The minister noted that while the transformation will not be easy, it is a development that the government is committed to.
