G4S Security Company workers vote in favour of union representation

Over 89 percent of the votes cast by security guards employed with G4S Security Company were in favour of trade union representation.

The secret ballot poll was held on February 19, 2013 at three operational units of G4S in Vieux Fort, Soufriere and Castries.  The process was supervised by Deputy Labour Commissioner Ray Narcisse and Labour Inspectors Glen St. Croix and Kissinger Smith from the Department of Labour.

The Department of Labour today achieved a great hall mark by using for the first time, a Mobile Secret Ballot Unit. This Unit ensured that there was absolutely no disruption of the company’s services to its clients and tremendously reduced the time traditionally taken in such an exercise. Both the company and the union lauded the new thrust.

As a result, the National Workers Union will be granted official recognition to represent the interest of all security guards employed with G4S.

Meanwhile, the National Workers Union has submitted a recognition claim on behalf of security guards employed with Guardsman Security Services Ltd.
