The Feast of Musicians is celebrated every year on November 22nd which is the feast day of St. Cecilia who is the patron Saint of Musicians. This is a tradition handed down over the years where the musicians came out and around the town of Castries, customarily early in the morning, and played music for the residents who showed appreciation by giving them refreshments as they went from house to house.
Friends of Music celebrate every year in the community of Barre du Chauseé where a number of bands from the surrounding areas perform in the same vain as the traditions of years past.
This year the celebration will take place at the Barre du Chauseè Multipurpose Court in La Croix Maingot starting at 3:00pm. It is a family outing with free admission.
The program on Sunday includes 8 bands – Survival Steel Orchestra, Locally Natural, N S Band, Afrikan Roots, Teti & His Sax, Woulé Tété, Rising Stars, The La Croix Maingot Combined School Choir and special surprise guest performers. For the last ten years, Friends of Music have been very proud to produce this event which has been hailed a day not only to celebrate the musicians, but the people of the community of Barre du Chauseé. The Saint Lucian public is invited to celebrate with them which promises to be day of fun for all.
