PRESS RELEASE – The patrol cutter “La Gracieuse” of the French Navy will be docked at Pointe Seraphine in Castries, Saint Lucia, making a courtesy call four entire days, from Friday 2nd December to Tuesday 6th December 2016. .
The stopover of the patrol cutter “La Gracieuse” in Saint Lucia is a continuation of cooperation activities between France and Saint Lucia. This call will help to strengthen the cooperation of the French armed forces with their Saint Lucian partners.
The call of “La Gracieuse” in Saint Lucia also expresses the desire by the French authorities to contribute to safety and security in the region, particularly in cases of natural disasters.
“La Gracieuse” is a “P400” class patrol boat. All the cutters of this class were built in Cherbourg, France, by the Mechanical construction of Normandy and are all stationed overseas. “La Gracieuse” is stationed in Dégrad des Cannes, French Guiana, with her sister ship “La Capricieuse”.
The P400 responds to several types of missions:
1 Carrying out surveillance of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) ;
2 Carrying out surveillance of the approaches of the space centre during rocket launch sequences ;
3 Carrying out surveillance and fishing control duties ;
4 SAR ;
5 Representation at the time of calls abroad.
