Sandals Grande Employee has his blood pressure checked as part of a series of free medical services on property grounds on Wednesday.

In keeping with the international observance of Wellness Day 2014, Sandals Grande Saint Lucian Spa & Beach Resort partnered with the executives of the Polly Clinic in Gros Islet to allow for more than 100 of its staff members to take advantage of free medical services on property grounds.

The occasion was observed on Wednesday under the direction of Community Health Nurse Alicia Baptiste from the Polly Clinic and the Human Resource Manager department for Sandals Grande.

The initiative allowed for team members to take advantage of more than a dozen free health services ranging from eye examinations, to cancer screening and counseling and foot care advice.

Nurses and community health aides were also on hand to administer blood pressure and other tests as well as nutritionists who offered counseling, provided body mass index checks and examined for diabetes and hypertension.

Human Resource Manager for Sandals Grande Fleur Mathurin said the initiative was one that was not only in keeping with international observations but rather a conscious move by the hotel’s management to provide medical service to team members who often go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that Sandals Resorts delivers a quality tourism product.

“We want to make sure our team members are healthy. It is they who make Sandals what it is and their health is important,” Mathurin said.
Mathurin pointed out that the move is in keeping with the company’s ongoing commitment to staff welfare and development.

In the meantime, Nurse Baptiste pointed to the fact that many employees of today are often unable to find time to effectively manage both their health and their fulltime jobs.

“Being here today is quite an honour for us. We know the challenges young adults face in paying attention to both their health and careers and we are happy to bring these services to them,” Nurse Baptiste said.
