FRC to review Creole Heritage Month and Jounen Kweyol

PRESS RELEASE – The Folk Research Centre will be holding a review of Creole Heritage Month and Jounen Kwéyòl 2016 on SATURDAY DECEMBER 10TH AT 10 AM AT ITS HEADQUARTERS, MOUNT PLEASANT.

Jounen Kwéyòl 2016 was held in the communities of Jacmel, Belle Vue, Choiseul and Gros Islet. Each community highlighted some aspect of St. Lucian culture for which they are well known.

The Review will endeavor to make an assessment of the activities held during the month and those organized by communities on Jounen Kwéyòl. As the Festival has grown from its beginning in 1984, so have the challenges of planning, management and organization.

The FRC has always voiced its concern that the celebration of St. Lucia’s traditional culture, the original aim of the national event, is in danger of being lost. Efforts will be made to encourage implementation of recommendations coming out of the meeting.

While many stakeholders will be invited, the meeting is open to members of the public with an interest in the development of the annual Creole Heritage Month and Jounen Kwéyòl.
