PRESS RELEASE – The Colgate National Spelling Bee Competition now into its fourth year was officially launched at the offices of Peter and Company Ltd. in Cul De Sac, on Thursday 23rd October by Dr. Sherry Ephraim-LeCompte, Senior Dental Surgeon at the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations.
Dr. Lecompte noted that the Spelling Bee Competition which will feature grade 3 students from around the island is a collaboration of the Dental Department of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development and Labour and Title Sponsor Colgate through their local agents Peter and Company Ltd.
“The process of the Spelling Bee is rather simple. The schools are forwarded a dental test Spelling Bee booklet, from which the students study and lean the words, they then compete within their classes and schools. Each school sends their representative to the preliminary competition at the district level where a winner will emerge from each district.” she said.
While addressing the audience Chanelle Bailey, Colgate Brand Manager at Peter and Company stated “Now there are simply something that fit like hand and glove. Colgate and an event like this, whose goal is keeping smiles for later years is one such fit.”
“Colgate is therefore especially proud to be title sponsors this year of this activity contributing in conjunction with Paradise Water just under $20,000 to ensure its success. What makes it even more exciting for us is that we are directly contributing to the development of our young people. We are empowering them to SPELL.”
The preliminary round of competition will be held during the third week of November with the grand finally in December 2014.
