(SNO) – Investing in the youth of Saint Lucia, responding to the island’s crime crisis and halting the sale of Saint Lucia’s passport are some items on a “wish list” proposed by former minister for Public Service, Information, Broadcasting, Sustainable Development, Energy, Science and Technology, Dr. James ‘Jimmy’ Fletcher.

He dubbed his wish list as “Eye Chart for all politicians in 2020.”

“2020 has had great significance for me since 1973, when at the age of 10 years and one week, I entered Form 1 at St Mary’s College,” he said in presenting the list. “This is when I found out I did not have 20-20 vision and I needed to wear glasses. Since then, I have gone through countless pairs of glasses and contact lens to cause my eyes to focus light on my retina, rather than in front of it.”

He added, “My wish for 2020 is that from this point onwards, every government in Saint Lucia will be blessed with 20-20 vision and will be able to pass this eye test with flying colours.”

The following is the full list by Dr. Fletcher:

-Invest in our youth
-reduce our high level of debt
-embark on constitutional reform
-stop selling Saint Lucian passport
-fix our health system
-give more support to local business
-focus on agriculture and food security
-promote the arts, culture and heritage
-assist the poor and vulnerable among us
-eliminate corruption at all levels of government
-put an end to divisive politics and treat people on merit
-educate and empower our people so they can strive for excellence
