FOOTBALL: Seven more teams qualify for Guinness Street Challenge grand finals

PRESS RELEASE – Seven more teams qualified as four qualifying rounds of the 2014 Guinness Street Challenge Small Goals Football Competition took place at the weekend.

On Friday evening, before a massive crowd in Mabouya Valley, Ghetto Youths defeated Pumas United 3-2 as they both booked places in the  grand finals.

On Saturday evening in Dennery, Le Pang and Young Strikers qualified for the grand finals of the competition with Le Pang winning the Dennery leg 1-0 in the finals over Young Strikers.

Yesterday, two qualifiers were held: one in the north of the island and one in the south of the island.

At the VBCC Courts in La Clery, Young Stars beat Rising Stars 1-0 in the finals to book their place in the grand finals on April 27.

At the Vieux Fort Multipurpose Courts before a very large crowd, Koke (named after  Athletico Madrid player KOKE ) won 2-1 on penalties over Can’t Take Your Christ to win the Vieux Fort leg as both teams  booked places in the grand finals to be held at the same venue on April 27.

Two-time defending champions Platinum FC from Vieux Fort have a bye into the final rounds. There is one more qualifying round set for April 20 in Soufriere.

So far 14 teams have already booked spots in the grand finals. They are:
Young Gunzs and Renegades- Micoud Leg
El Ninos and It’s All Right- Desruisseaux Leg
Brick Squad and Trois Piton – Barre Denis Leg
Ghetto Youths and Pumas – Mabouya Leg
Le pang and Young Strikers-Dennery leg
Young Stars- La Clery Leg
Koke and Can’t Take Your Christ- Vieux Fort Leg
and defending champions Platinum FC of Vieux Fort
