Five injured in boating accident


Five persons were injured this afternoon following a collision between a catamaran and a pirogue in the Anse Chasnet/Soufriere area Sunday evening.

Head of the Marine Unit, Assistant Supt. Milton Desir told St. Lucia News Online (SNO) that they received the report of the accident at about 6 p.m.

Desir said the catamaran was conducting a local boat ride.

  1. @ONE...In current use a pirogue is a fast fiberglass boat typically around 26ft long characterized by a long sharp flared bow to handle moderate waves. Most pirogue in Saint Lucia are made in Trinidad to designs derived from South American fishing craft

    The pirogue is the mainstay of the SLU fishing and water taxi fleet

  2. These boat related incidents are becoming quite prevalent these days. I think more stringent laws must be put in place to monitor boating activities in St.lucia. just like cars and drivers a lot of these boatmen and boats are not "legal" on the waters.
