Edgar to compete in men’s 800m

The Saint Lucia Athletics Association is being represented today at the 3rd Annual Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Track & Field Championships by a five-member team.

Two defending champions from Saint Lucia will be competing at the Silver Jubilee Stadium on Basseterre, St Kitts-Nevis, along with two junior athletes and one individual based overseas.

The defending champions in Sugar City are Darvin Edwards and Albert Reynolds. Edwards won the men’s high jump last year on his way to the London Olympics. Albert won the men’s javelin throw.

Meanwhile, the juniors are triple CARIFTA silver medallist Marbeq Edgar – running the men’s 800m – and long jumper Nicarge Arnold. Corneil Lionel, fresh off his freshman campaign at Iowa  Western Community College, will contest the men’s 100m and 200m. The team coach is Travis Joseph.

Over 75 athletes from seven OECS countries including Antigua-Barbuda, Anguilla, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and host country St. Kitts-Nevis will compete in events in this one-day competition.
