Staff of FirstCaribbean International Bank are on an apparent sick out that has left branches island-wide affected.

The reason behind the protest action is unclear at this time. However, the bargaining agent for the workers, the National Workers Union, recently signed a collective agreement with management.

The parties agreed to a general wage increase spread over a three-year period with three percent in year 1, two percent in year 2 and one percent in year 3.

Over 70 employees at the financial institution will receive a back pay effective January 2012.
