Female police officer reappears in court for theft

A female police officer attached to the Special Services Unit (SU), who has been charged with multiple counts of theft for stealing monies using her colleague’s ATM card, appeared in court on Monday before Magistrate Michelle Louis.

Woman Police Constable 830 Vana Delia Sonson of Saltibus, Choiseul is charged with 17 counts of stealing from Kelvina Isembert from November 20, 2012 to December 14, 2012.

The 20-year-old Sonson is scheduled to reappear in court on February 15, 2013 for case management.

She was arrested on Wednesday, Dec. 19 by officers of the Major Crimes Unit and charged on Thursday, Dec. 20. In her first appearance in court on Dec. 20, 2012, she received $8,500 bail.

Police said Sonson is a police officer of two years service within the Royal St. Lucia Police Force, and at the time of her arrest she was attached to SSU.

She has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the case.
