(PRESS RELEASE) – As part of the activities marking Saint Lucia’s forty-first anniversary of independence, the New York City-based Saint Lucian American Progressive League announced today that Reverend Monsignor Theophilus Joseph will officiate at its annual Independence church service.
This year’s service is scheduled for Sunday, February 23, 2020, starting at 10:00 AM, and will be held at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church, 583 Throop Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11216.
A spokesperson for the Saint Lucian American Progressive League expressed the organization’s delight at having Reverend Monsignor Joseph, affectionately known as “Father Theo,” celebrate this year’s mass. “As always, we eagerly look forward to hearing from our beloved Father Theo and his words of inspiration at what promises to be a true Saint Lucian gathering,” the spokesperson said. “We can’t wait to fellowship with our Saint Lucian brothers and sisters as we pray for our Helen of the West on the occasion of our forty-first birthday.”
The event will additionally feature performances by sister New York City-based cultural organizations, as well as a recital by Saint Lucian violinist Grace Ramjeawan.
All Saint Lucians and friends of Saint Lucia in the tri-state area are welcome to attend both the service, and the annual Independence Brunch that follows immediately after.
The Saint Lucian American Progressive League was founded in late 2009, in the aftermath of the devastating St Jude Hospital fire that resulted in the death of three patients. The organization was able to raise funds, which were later contributed toward the hospital’s rebuilding efforts. The organization has since remained committed to the island’s welfare, through our many philanthropic endeavors benefiting disadvantaged Saint Lucians.
The Saint Lucian American Progressive League would also like to take this opportunity to wish Saint Lucians both at home and abroad a very happy independence.
