FA CUP: Dennery, Desruisseaux record victories

Dennery and Desruisseaux recorded victories last evening, April 29, 2013, the third day of action in the St. Lucia Football Association (SLFA) Cup Tournament at the Beasejour Cricket Grounds in Gros Islet.

Dennery defeated Micoud 3-1 in the first game and Desriusseaux blanked Vieux Fort North, 3-0, in the second.

Dennery v Micoud

Micoud took an early lead through a header from Levi Altidore in the 14th minute. From there on Micoud played with composure while the other team struggled to find their rhythm.

In the second half, Dennery dominated as they played with precision, making better passes, having more possession, and pressuring with a compact defense. They were justly rewarded in the 47th minute with an equalizer from Levi Gilbert.

Micoud tried to stay in the game by attacking Dennery’s half but came up empty-handed.

Dennery made it 2-1 in the 78th minute with a goal from Nyhm Gilbert and put the icing on the cake when Winnel Felix scored in the 90th minute, making it 3-1.

Desriusseaux v Vieux Fort North

This game was a more balanced match as both team appeared to be technically sound and their passes were accurate. They both played long passes which spread both teams across the field of play.

They both were aggressive, trying to gain every possession and taking any opportunity to shoot at the goal. Each team’s defensive line prevented the other team from scoring until Desruisseaux found a way to break down the defensive line of Viuex Fort and scored a goal through Jerlanne Neptune in the 19th miniute.

Desruisseaux extended their lead soon after with goal #2 from Lance Sammy in the 24th minute.

In the second half, there seemed to be no momentum from the teams until Derruisseaux’s Luanga Willie in the 90th minute to put the final nail in Vieux Fort North’s coffin.

Games continue today, Tuesday, April 30 at the same venue with a double-header: Soufriere vs Roseau at 6 pm and Vieux Fort South vs La Clery at 8 pm.

Quarterfinals start on Wednesday, May 1 with a double-header: In the first game Mabouya will come up against Gros Islet at 6 pm and Canaries will face Marchand from 8 pm.
