The organizers of the ‘Fund for the Evicted Father of Three’ have expressed gratitude to persons who made donations to the Mathurin family through an online facility that was available from June 14 – 30, 2013.

The money – $800 – was presented to Eliud Mathurin, a single father of three who was left homeless after his Cas En Bas, Gros Islet home was demolished on court order in June 2013.

Clarita Emmanuel, a St. Lucian residing in the US, had embarked on a drive to raise funds for the single father and his children who were unable to attend school due to the incident.

Emmanuel, who is originally from Laborie but residing in San Francisco, said she was touched by Mathurin’s unfortunate incident and hence decided to lend a hand.

She had solicited donations from St. Lucians living in the US via the website gofundme.com/39upvg. Her friend, Bynta Ernest, who resides here, ensured that the funds got to the family.

“I don’t know the details of the family land dispute but it is clear that three innocent children don’t have a home to go to, a bed to sleep in or the necessities needed on a daily basis. Based on the news reports, the children are not able to attend school because of the current situation,” Emmanuel had stated on the website.
