PRESS RELEASE – A delegation of European diplomats, led by EU Head of Delegation Ambassador Mikael Barfod, met Prime Minister Kenny Anthony in Castries (St Lucia) on 26 April.  The delegation included Eric de la Moussaye, Ambassador of France, Lutz Görgens, Ambassador of Germany, Annie McGee, Resident British Commissioner, and Jesús Lavalle Merchán, Charge’ d’Affaires ad interim of Spain.

The meeting was agreed with the Prime Minister in January on the basis of his expectations to have the vacancies of the Police Commissioner and of the Director of Public Prosecutions filled by this time. It was a joint understanding that these recruitments are necessary to launch a proper investigation into the serious allegations of extra judicial killings of 2010-2011 and the IMPACS investigative report, so that due process can be guaranteed.

The European diplomats noted that the vacancy of the Police Commissioner was officially filled from 1 April. They also noted that the recruitment of the Director of Public Prosecution, although delayed, is now underway with interviews scheduled for May.

The European delegation reiterated the importance of the new Director of Public Prosecution (when appointed) taking up allegations of extra judicial killings as a priority and for the government of St Lucia to provide all the necessary resources that the due process will require, in full respect of the independence of the judiciary branch. This would boost the country’s international reputation as regards the upholding of the general principle of rule of law, an intrinsic part of democratic governance.

The European delegation offered support to deal with the general backlogs in the justice system in St Lucia, present in most Caribbean countries, through interventions financed under the Regional Indicative Program from the 11th European Development Fund.

The European Union and its Member States will continue to monitor the follow up given to serious accusations of extra judicial killings in St Lucia.

  1. You can bet your asses that he does not have a choice. You people here cannot even plant a fig and survive on it for a month farless. If those countries have to pull their weight within a few months we will be just like the meg cows with all the ticks. You notice that even a big oil producing country like Venezuela cannot even afford toilet paper because of sanctions. Those who think that it is only about tourists are just plain stupid. Matter of fact they don't even have to go as far as advising their people not to come to St. Lucia. They control the world's financial system so how are you going to feed yourself? Medicines? If thats the thinking of St. Lucians they might as well join Kenny Anthony in his David Coresh/Jim Jones style of suicide.

This DPP thing WILL NOT happen before elections. If it does you can bet your brains that elections will be called within a month. they call that a clean getaway.

All this grandstanding is about the ego of one man. Lucians should do better to get him out instead of sinking with him and his foolishness. STUPID!!!! smh.

  2. To those comments like "why the PM entertaining them, why don't they mind they own business"

Below is ONE of the reasons! Some of us Lucians, boy...

“On 26 April EU Ambassador Mikael Barfod signed a EC$19 million (Euro 6.2 million) financing agreement with St. Lucia’s Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony that will go towards the construction of a new bridge critical to river crossing on the west coast, as well as reconstruction of a road along the west coast corridor.”

  3. The PM has used IMPACS as a political weapon from the very beginning. If he was not so interested in playing politics, the report should have been sent straight to the DPP along with all the evidence. Instead he had it delivered to himself. Then he disclosed some of its contents and may have prejudiced the Report by doing so.

Thank God there are countries who can use their influence to force him to do the right thing or all us Lucians would be trouble.

  4. why are we so ignorant. Where do our tourist come from? where do our Aid come from to build roads, schools, hospital( did we forget the EU ) is who funded it. when u think these politicians play as if they have power, they know the day they ever play bad boy, all their pockets will be empty. Kenny love a handout, just watch his face when he receives cheques.

  5. Does he have a choice in the matter? I don't think so. He has balls only on a platform and in the house and when he is among those he treats as sheep.

  7. My observation. If the UWP is so responsible for the outcome of operation restore confifence, the killings and the whole IMPACS mess as Dr. Anthony claims, any reasonable person would think that especially in an election year Dr. Anthony would have been eager to pursue and conclude IMPACS issue to expose the UWP as he claims and embarras them in an election year.

So why the hide and seek, why is Dr. Anthony afraid to bring closure to IMPACS . Is it that Dr. Anthony considers St. Lucians as fools unable to see through his absolute insincereity and foolishness with this IMPACS matter. Who is Dr. Anthony hiding or is he facing a back fired situation?
