PRESS RELEASE – On Sunday, two unbeaten Under 16 teams met in a dream final. Sunrisers Football Academy squared off with the Orangemen of Valley Soccer Academy.

After a tense, hard fought and goalless first half, Aaron Richards put Sunrisers ahead via a well struck penalty in the 45th minute.

Two minutes later Jamie John got the equalizer for the Valley Soccer Academy, in the process setting up a finish worthy of a grand finale.

As the two searched for a winner Jade Jeremie latched onto a cross in the 60th minute to calmly beat the Orange custodian and hand Sunrisers Football Academy a 2 goals to 1 win, and the title of Under 16 champions.

In the previous game VSADC faced Northern United in the Under 16 3rd place play off. Prolific striker Wilson Charlemagne’s brace in the 8th and 21st minute gave VSADC a 2 goal lead into the break.

On the resumption the Under 16 Best Mid Fielder Gabriel Biscette set the game on fire when he responded with his own brace in the 40thand 52nd minute to draw Northern United level. That’s how it remained until regulation. VSADC eventually emerged winners after a tense set of penalties.

The previous day the Under 12 division took center stage, and the excitement was palpable.

The final, billed as the Marchand derby, saw Big Players facing undefeated Super J Boboville. These two teams never fail to bring the excitement. Kimran Laurent gave Boboville the lead in the 25thminute, but Naz Valcin’s strike in the 42nd minute drew Big Players level.

That’s how it remained until the end of regulation. The Under 12 Champion was determined after a penalty shootout which Big Players prevailed by a score a 3 goals to 2.

In the 3rd place playoff Keegan Caul’s 29th minute goal put VSADC on the score card, but  a brace by Jahlil Evans in the 41st and 47th minute gave Super J Northern United a hard fought 2-1 win.

Before a ball was kicked on Saturday Super J Northern United and Valley Soccer Academy had already earned the positions of Champions and runners up in the Under 14 division.

Overall, there were seventy games played over 9 weeks, with 298 goals scored.

In an effort to recognize those teams and individual players who contributed to the success of this tournament an award ceremony followed the end of each day’s play.
