Popular local calypsonian Peter St Pierre had been at Victoria Hospital for several weeks, a cut on his lower leg exacerbated by his decade-long struggle with diabetes.

Better known by his stage name, Controller, St Pierre says he “got tired of talking to the other patients,” so he decided to tune in to the year-end edition of Musically Speaking.

ECCO, the Eastern Caribbean Collective Organisation for Music Rights Inc, hosts the show every Saturday on Radio Saint Lucia. But today, something special was in the offing.

“This was our Christmas edition, so we invited a number of collaborators to make it a special show,” says Steve Etienne, general manager of ECCO. “We had a two-hour show, with musical guests including TC Brown, Ambi, Mongster, Lenny Stone, Trish, Gene Lawrence, Jim Coco Snow and Cyril ‘Slade’ Mitchell, so it was all very exciting. And we took the opportunity to do a number of giveaways with our friends from LIME, Consolidated Foods, Brydens and Saint Lucia Distillers playing the role of Santa.”

Controller’s knowledge of local music earned him a great Christmas gift from trusted ECCO licensee, LIME, a brand-new BlackBerry 8520 smartphone. Having returned home in time for Christmas, he was delighted when the LIME team surprised him at his Paix Bouche, Babonneau home.

“I’m definitely enjoying this merry moment with LIME,” says St Pierre. “I’ve been a LIME customer for a long time, and this is a big upgrade from my Alcatel phone. It’s good that LIME supports the local music industry in different ways.”

“Being part of this special edition of Musically Speaking was a no-brainer,” says LIME Head of Marketing & Communications, Laurencia Cadette. “We are always proud and pleased to work with ECCO and by extension the creative industries sector. And we couldn’t have had a better winner. As a musician himself, and considering his medical condition, it was most opportune that we were able to team up with ECCO to bring a little bit of Christmas cheer to Mr St Pierre at this most festive time of year.”

During the course of the show, ECCO also presented Christmas hampers to Jim Coco Snow and Slade.
