The driver of a pickup van which crashed into a house last year, killing one of the passengers, has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving when he was arraigned in court yesterday, Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Hendrickson George was the driver of pick-up van, license numberTB1808, which was involved in a single-vehicle crash on December 12, 201o, the eve of National Day.
Reports are that George was driving along the Vide Bouteille Road towards Castries, in the vicinity of La Clery, when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a house on the left side of the road causing the death of Clarence Edwards who was riding in the back of the van.
Three other passengers in the cab of the vehicle suffered a myriad of injuries, ranging from minor to serious.
The passengers of the vehicle were on their way home from work, while others had been dropped off. However, it is understood that the deceased, Edwards, chose to continue sitting in the back of the vehicle amongst the work tools and ladder. He reportedly bore the brunt of the crash and suffered major injuries.
The passengers were transported to Victoria Hospital where Edwards later succumbed to his injuries. The others were treated and released. The driver suffered minor injuries.
George will reappear in court on April 9, 2013 at 8:30 am for sentencing.
