PRESS RELEASE – In keeping with maintaining the spirit of ‘Gifting’ this Christmas, Digicel continues to extend its corporate social responsibility portfolio with increased activity during the season of giving.
For 2016, the communities of Rosseau, Canaries and Dennery on December 8th – 9th were the beneficiaries of Digicel’s annual ‘Feed the Need Drive’ providing meals to the underprivileged, homeless, sick and shut in and less fortunate residents.
Through collaboration with the Canaries, Anse-La Raye and Dennery South Village councils, Digicel was able to directly interact and share the gift of a hearty meal with the most vulnerable of the communities. Single parent families, disabled persons, mentally challenged and other socio-economically challenged individuals all benefited from this venture.
Team Digicel, comprising of staff and volunteers headed across to the communities of Rosseau and Canaries respectively on Thursday December 8th and Dennery village on Friday December 9th, from 9 am ready to serve the residents. The Christmas breakfast included spreads with hot and cold beverages, fresh fruit, ham, bacon, eggs, salad, sausages, bakes, and many other breakfast delicacies.
Residents expressed deep gratitude and happiness with the smiles and comments of appreciation to the “Feed the Need” Team. This moment was rewarding for all team members as it allowed for a special connection to the community and also allowed them to boldly live the spirit of sharing and giving. The Team showed a great deal of contentment in being able to assist the residents as this marked a personal contribution to serving the communities and brightening the lives of the less fortunate people in St Lucia.
