PRESS RELEASE – Youth development through sport is critical component of Digicel’s mandate to add value to the communities we serve.

Digicel continues to provide its support to the development of grassroots football through its KickStart programme.

Thirty under 16 aspiring football players will on June 10 – 12, 2014 receive the opportunity of a lifetime to attend a clinic with world-renowned football club – Chelsea, through the Digicel KickStart programme. Leading up to the final selection, a series of pre-clinics have been scheduled this week to select the best under 16 St. Lucian footballers.

On Wednesday, May 28, a talented crop of young footballers will get the opportunity to showcase their talent as they participate in the first pre-clinic for final selection to the Digicel KickStart Clinic with Chelsea Football Club coaches.

This first of two pre-clinics will be held in the south of the island where clubs from southern districts including Soufriere, Choiseul, Laborie, Vieux Fort North, Vieux Fort South, Desruisseaux, Micoud, Dennery, Mon Repos, Mabouya Valley will all showcase their talent to be selected as one of the thirty players.

On Saturday, May 31, 2014 the SAB Sporting Facility in Vigie Castries will then have its own young football players vie for a spot in the clinic. Gros Islet, Babonneau, La Clery, Central Castries, Marchand, South Castries, Roseau, Anse La Raye, Canaries will all have their best players do their thing in this pre-qualifier.

From these two clinics, 30 boys will be selected by a panel consisting of the Castries Football Councils trained coaches.

“It is such great recognition to young local aspiring footballers that allows Digicel to cement its commitment to the development of local youth football. Digicel takes pride in providing opportunities to allow these talented individuals to showcase their skills and be part of a sport that is loved both locally and regionally” says Sergin John Baptiste, Digicel Public Relation and Communications Executive.

This year, three boys will again be chosen to attend the Academy in Barbados for the week long intense coaching clinic later this year which will again be fully funded by Digicel.
