Did you know that Trinidad-born calypsonian Kentrick Patrick was born on August 21, 1940?

Lord Creator, as he is more popularly known, moved to Jamaica in the late 1950s and his first huge hit tune ‘Evening News’ was recorded in 1959.

In 1962, he recorded ‘Independent Jamaica’, which became the official song marking Jamaica’s independence from the British Empire on August 6, 1962.

Two of his most popular tunes were ‘Kingston Town’ and ‘Big Bamboo’.

Did you know that Anthony Moses Davis, who goes by the stage name Beenie Man. and also known as King of the Dancehall, was born in the Waterhouse District of Kingston, Jamaica on August 22, 1973?

Did you know that on August 23, 1833, Britain abolished slavery in the colonies and about 700,000 slaves were freed?
