DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that in 1792 the breadfruit was brought from Tahiti to the Caribbean by one Captain William Bligh of the Royal Navy?

Captain Bligh made the journey specially for purpose. This was his second attempt. His first attempt was in 1789, ended in the famous mutiny on the Bounty.

The British government wanted to introduce the breadfruit into the region as a nourishing item of diet for the slaves, who first refused to eat it, but it eventually became a popular food in many parts of the region.
