Did you know in 1970, a cultural renaissance commenced in St. Lucia? However early attempts to integrate the Kwéyòl language and Creole structure into established institutions were met with resistance and it took a decade before some progress was made.
Did you know under the 1960 Constitution, the Administrator became Her Majesty’s representative in St. Lucia? There were to be ten elected members instead of eight and two nominated members instead of three, with the Crown Attorney as the only official member of the Legislature.
The Administrator ceased to be President of the House and a Speaker was elected from inside or outside the Legislature. The Executive Council continued to have general control over the Government and comprised of the President, Attorney General, four members and one other person.
