(SNO) – Rising Saint Lucian swim star Antoine Destang recently competed in the 2018 Bolles School Sharks TYR Summer Classic.
Last year he had what his father, Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association president Sanovnik Destang, described as “a humbling experience, earning a hard-fought fifth place overall and one bronze medal against much tougher competition than he is used to seeing in the Caribbean.”
Fast forward 12 months, and the youngster dominated the boys 9-10 division at the Uible Pool in Jacksonville, Flordia, against some of the top competition from Florida and Latin America.
Antoine earned five gold medals, four silver, and a bronze, and won his category going away at the recently concluded competition.
Among Antoine’s gold medals were the 50m freestyle (29.66 seconds), 100m butterfly (1:06.79), 200m freestyle (2:25.52), 50m butterfly (31.78), and 100m butterfly (1:13.37).
He took second in the 400m freestyle (5:23.30), 100m backstroke (1:24.10), 50m breaststroke (41.44) and 200m individual medley (2:51.82) and bronze in the 100m breaststroke (1:36.59).
Overall, Antoine earned 184 points swimming unattached.
Austin Starnes of SwimAtlanta-GA copped 166, whilst Louis Joos of the host team, Bolles School Sharks of Florida, finished with 159.
