Desruisseaux man sent to prison for illegal firearm and ammunition

A 20-year-old man from Desruisseaux, Micoud was last week sentenced to six years imprisonment for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

According to court records, Toyan Charles was arrested on Friday, November 2, 2012 at about 1:45 am while he was attending a function in Marc, Bexon.

A search revealed that Charles was in possession of a firearm and ammunition, both of which proved to be illegal.  Charles was charged with both offences and taken before Magistrate Michelle Louis.

Though he initially pleaded not guilty to both charges, Charles later changed his plea to guilty.  Magistrate Louis, who heard the facts of the case on April 10, 2013, handed down a sentence of three years imprisonment on each charge.
