After a weekend of exciting football, the National Lottery’s Desruisseaux Football League has come to the end of its quarterfinal stage.
Two of the quarterfinal games played at the weekend went to penalties, with Rising Stars already confirmed earlier in the week as the first semifinalist.
On Saturday, Blanchard United played Ti Rocher FC. At halftime the score was 1-0 Blanchard, but Ti Rocher equalized midway through the second half and held on strong until the final whistle.
Ti Rocher emerged the winner from the penalty shootout with a 4-3 score line.
In game one of the Sunday double header, El Ninos took on Chique United. This game ended 2-0 in favor of El Ninos. Goal scorers were Mickeige Emmanuel and national under-20 player Delon Neptune, an Anse Ger Secondary alumnus, who scored five goals in Saint Lucia’s 17-0 demolition of Turks & Caicos Islands earlier this year.
Game two saw Green Monsters and Small Axe going head to head, with two Vieux Fort Comprehensive boys scoring. Green Monsters took the lead in the 50th minute through Garry Ferdinand.
Ten minutes before full time, powerful striker Darvin Prince of Small Axe scored the equalizer. Small Axe got the better of the penalty shootout 6-5.
The semifinalists for the Desruisseaux Football League are Rising Stars, Ti Rocher FC, El Ninos and Small Axe. Game dates and fixtures will be announced in the coming week.
