The newly launched Desperados Red from Windward and Leeward Brewery Ltd. enjoyed a remarkable first-week with a number of activities, beginning with the event “Live n Colour” on August 1.

The tequila flavoured beer which also contains tequila, cachaca and guarana extract, has now made its way into supermarkets, wholesale and retail outlets as well as bars and restaurants across the island.

Last week, the local media had their opportunity to sample this refreshingly new addition to the WLBL portfolio, as well as to interact with the Innovations Manager responsible for the brand, Germaine Serieux. Along with two beautiful Desperados ladies, Serieux took Desperados Red on a media road trip last week, with stop-overs at some of the major media outlets here. These included radio, television and print media houses here. This activity allowed media personalities to engage more intimately with the product and offer their direct feedback as well.

Overall, the response has been outstanding. Two radio personalities described Desperados Red as “sexy” while another declared “this would be my drink for the summer and beyond.” “It certainly gives me a chance to finally be able to drink a beer, with this new flavour. I really like it!” one reporter stated.

According to Serieux the Saint Lucian media has always been very supportive of projects, products and events of Windward and Leeward Brewery and this was no different. “Typically what would happen is that we would invite the media to a press launch of any of our new products or events. However, this time around we thought that we should take this new product, Desperados Red directly to the media and engage them and receive some honest feedback as well,” Serieux says. The Innovations Manager added that the activity also allowed him and by extension WLBL to get to know the various media personalities more closely and to meet some of the hard working people who are behind the scenes too.

“I would really like to thank those media houses we visited, for opening up their doors to us and all of the wonderful feedback as well as suggestions they put forward to us as well,” Serieux says.

The Desperados Red first-week ended over the weekend with the launch of the first Desperados branded lounge, The Secret Lounge at Rodney Bay and Project X an exclusive party at Marisule. Both events were quite successful.

Desperados Red is now available in 33cl bottles island-wide and distributed by WLBL.
