(St. Lucia News Online) — Member of Parliament (MP) for Dennery North and Former Sports Minister Shawn Edward has called on his constituents and the wider St. Lucian public to cooperate with health officials in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in light of the recent surge in cases locally.

“As we proceed with the necessary public health interventions, a serious appeal is made to the public to cooperate with our health officers and to daily practice the behaviors which can protect your health and safety,” he said in a press release earlier this week.

He also disclosed that the Ministry of Health has confirmed that two Aux Lyon, Dennery residents have tested positive for COVID -19 and as a result health officials have “intensified their surveillance program by establishing a testing facility in the heart of the affected community to complement their ongoing public education campaign”.

He said one of the confirmed cases is a member of the Mabouya Valley Senior Male Football Team.

“In keeping with established protocol, it was necessary to test the entire team. The exercise took place on Monday, October 19 at the Grand Riviere Human Resource Centre,” he revealed.

Chief Medical Officer Sharon Belmar-George has also called for the public’s cooperation.

“As we proceed with the necessary public health interventions, a serious appeal is made to the public to cooperate with our health officers and to daily practice the behaviors which can protect your health and safety,” she said in a news release on Wednesday, Oct. 21 when St. Lucia recorded cases #38 and #39.
