(SNO) — National cricket under-19 defending champions Gros Islet advanced into the semi-finals of the 2019 SLNCA/Sandals 50 Over Cup.
On Saturday, April 27, Gros Islet Under 19, led by a magnificent century from former West Indies under-16 batsman Lee Solomon, registered a convincing 213-run victory over Choiseul Under 19 at the Piaye Playing Field.
Gros Islet, winning the toss and batting first, made an impressive 301 for 6 in their allocation of 43 overs with Lee Solomon hitting his second century of the tournament thus far. He made a superb 156, laced with 15 fours and 7 sixes.
Other valuable contributors to Gros Islet’s total came from Zidane Arthur with 32, Bolton Sayers with 32 not out and Dominic Auguste with 18.
Bowling for Choiseul, Triston Norbal, with 3 for 32 in 5 overs, and 1 wicket each to Stephan Theophane, Jervon Stephen.
Set a target of 302 for a highly improbable victory, Choiseul was bowled out for 88 in 15.4 overs. The only batsmen to reach double figures were Tristan Norbal with 35 and Hanif Antione with 24.
The wicket takers for Gros Islet were Seamer Tyrel Chicot with 3 for 21 in 7 overs, left-arm spinner Rene Montoute with 3 for 14 in 3 overs, left-arm orthodox spinner and skipper Simeon Gerson wiith 2 for 5 in 2.4 overs and 1 wicket to Seamer Ryan Goodman.
RESULT: Gros Islet Under 19 defeated Choiseul Under 19 by 213 runs.
