Defending champions kick off Veterans Football Tournament with convincing win

football1PRESS RELEASE – Defending champions Caricom Masters kicked off the 2015 Veterans Football Tournament with a convincing four goals to nil win over Prophets and Kings last evening at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds as action in the 2015 Veterans Football Tournament continued.

Caricom Masters were led to victory with goals from Alvin Malaykhan CEO of Veterans in Sports Inc. in the 7th minute, Roger   “rasky”  Celestine in the 43rd minute, Vaughn Dave Lewis in the 66th minute and Julian Joseph in the 90th minute.

The other match last evening was not played as Lancers FC could not field an eleven for the start of the game and Anse La Raye were awarded a 3-0 default win.

A friendly encounter between Anse La Raye and an eleven put together featuring some Lancers players and players form Vieux Fort South was played instead.

Saturday evening Gros Islet and Congorians registered contrasting victories.

Gros Islet became the first team to qualify for the quarter finals of the tournament proper after winning their second match of the tournament after a   2-1 win over  the Valley Legends of Mabouya Valley. Henderson Charles in the 37th minute and Anthony “bibi” Evans in the 68th minute were the goal scorers for Gros Islet. Pius Marcel in the 49th minute had converted for the Valley Legends.

In the other match Saturday evening Congorians won over Micoud Veterans Three goals to nil, a score line which did not reflect the overall picture encounter as Congorians completely dominated the encounter, and they squandered several opportunities as the final scoreline could have been about 12 to 14 goals to nil.

The goal scorers for Congorians were Kenton Vitalis in the 2nd minute,Agustus “skell” Alcide in the 14th minute and Gravenay Vitalis in the 30th minute.
