The defendants hide their faces when they appeared in court on Tuesday.

Amraan James, a Customs officer of City Gate, Castries and Edmund Lucius Charles Alfred of Anse La Raye appeared before Magistrate Christine Phulchere on Tuesday, Aug. 13 in Castries in connection with a drug bust.

They were ordered remanded until their next scheduled court appearance on Sept 13, 2013.

The men were on Friday, August 9, 2013, charged for the offences of possession of a controlled drug and possession with the intent to supply a controlled drug.

The arrests stemmed from an incident on Saturday, August 3, 2013 when Drug Unit officers executed a search warrant on a residence belonging to James.

“The officers recovered 283 pounds of compressed dry green plants suspected to be cannabis on the premise,” a police press release stated.

The initial police report had indicated that four men were arrested for the drug bust but today’s press release stated that only two have been officially charged.

  6. We all have our own comments about the situation, but the actual truth of the matter is we are all always innocent until proven guilty , so the question remains , why did he run and have to turn himself in afterwards?

  11. ST. Lucia is on a whole backwards... The police system the customs/ immigration and politics. It's a shame to see ppl wait for trail and the ppl that should judge them are away. It's sad...what they did was wrong but don't crucify them for that... There are many people in higher ranks that are dealing drugs but are escaping because they know someone in the police force. And for the police officer who beat on the customs officer... That was dead wrong, not because u have a police badge does not mean u can abuse it, he should pay the price just like everybody else. I pray for their children and family.... St. Lucian's grow up and stop gossiping... KNOW THE DAMN FACTS.

THESE PPL TALKING ABOUT COMING DOWN WITH ELECTRONICS AN THE CUSTOMS OFFICER GIVING THEM A HARD TIME... HE DAMN RIGHT CHOOPS!!!

  12. Hahaha can u believe this, is that the mentality. Of our ppl. So wait: at a mans home was found almost 300 pounds of marijuana and ppl say he was set up.is it because of who he is he was set up. Set up by who. And again there is mention of him being assaulted by a police officer. So then are we saying that the police officer set him up. Accoding to my investigations the police officer in question is on suspension, or is he, I might be wrong. So then the police officer placed the marijuana at his home, ok then. I wonder what caused the officer too assault him in the first place. Boy I can imagine this customs officer feeling high and mighty, can't be touched. Maybe he doesn't even like police officers, maybe he even likes to taunt them, I saw one of the comments made mention of that. Whatever the case its said that he ws implicated in such a situation and its sad that a police officer was arrested and humiliated on his behalf I sure would not want to be in their shoes. Ppl we all would hate for our loved ones to be in a position like this but we need to stop pointing fingers and own up to our actions. These are all comments of the friends of the customs man but I wonder what his thoughts are. Not his open thoughts but his quiet thoughts his alone thoughts. Anyone would try to avoid problems by maybe telling a lie or not admitting the trueth, but only in the quietness of our minds we say maybe we should have done things better or oh lord save me from this embarasement. One thing I do know, that there is an almighty being who is in authoruity over all. Wonder what was the customs man position over the arrest of the police. I wonder if he was glotting over getting a police man arrested, not being mindful of maybe finding himself in a similar situation well especially if he knows to himself that he engages in situations similar to what he was arrested for, wow. Anyways ppl , let's wish for the best.

  14. It is time that we as citizens be logical in our thinking and stop with this court of public opinion. Why can't you people allow the justice system to deal with arrested persons and judge them accordingly. Do you people stop and ever think of the irreversible damage done to someone's reputation or character when all of you go judging. With speculation and rumours running rife, let us be more responsible in what we say. International agencies are provided with information that our country is a corrupt and lawless state because of comments like these posted over the internet. I agree to freedom of speech but PLEASE be responsible in what you post.

  16. What is wrong with this idiot talking about if it was a police it would be all over the news and radio. Police are some of the dirtiest people in st lucia. They do all types of crimes and cover up for each other. Hate them pigs. The biggest drug smugglers and guns dealers in st lucia are the police.
