Creole Film Symposium carded for Oct. 25

The Kwéyòl Language Committee of the Folk Research Centre in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Ste. Lucie is organizing a Creole Film Symposium in celebration of Creole Heritage Month.

This symposium aims to promote the Creole language and culture in an innovative and exciting way which will create public awareness of and appreciation for our national language. Among other things, the symposium highlights the use of the French Creole language and focuses on Creole cultural themes. It will bring together local film-makers and other artistes involved in film media which make dominant use of the Kwéyòl language.

The categories featured are comedy, advertisement, promotional video clips, documentaries and short fiction.  The symposium is open to all film media artistes. Those who wish to feature any piece of work at this Symposium, in any of the categories mentioned, are asked to contact the Folk Research Centre before Oct. 17th.

The Creole Film Symposium will take place on Thursday, October 25 at the Alliance Française de Ste. Lucie from 4:00 pm.

It will feature a panel discussion around the challenges of film creation using the Kwéyòl language and the prospects for film in the Kwéyòl language.

Specially invited film directors from Martinique are expected to participate in the Symposium and to showcase their work. The symposium will also be featuring projections of selected pieces in the various film categories and will invite feedback from the spectators who will have a chance to interact with the film directors.

Participants will be treated to a cocktail at the end of the symposium.
