(PRESS RELEASE) — After careful and insightful deliberations and consultations, the decision has been taken by the Caribbean Youth Conference Committee and by extension the 16th Executive of the Saint Lucia National Youth Council to postpone the Caribbean Youth Conference scheduled for April 20 — April 24, 2020 in Saint Lucia until further notice.
This is as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic affecting the region and the global community.
The decision was taken based on the intelligence of our health authorities and other personnel both locally and regionally. We deem this measure as a safety and precautionary mechanism as we seek to safeguard the health interests of our participants, stakeholders and the general public during this time.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our stakeholders and participants for their unwavering support and patience and we ask everyone to take the necessary precautionary measures to limit the transmission and spread of this disease.
The Saint Lucia National Youth Council encourages everyone to adhere and practice these basic preventative measures according to the WHO which include:
Frequent washing of the hands with an alcohol-based rub or with soap and water
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Practice respiratory hygiene
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
Maintain social distancing as much as possible
Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider and health officials
We also encourage everyone to pay close attention to reputable and official sources of information as the situation continues to be monitored.
We are currently in discussions with the OECS Commission and other key partners as we chart the best way forward. Thank You for your continued support.
