Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia ‘Whistle Stop Tour’ set for Sunday, April 23

By Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia

Technology Background 2PRESS RELEASE – The Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia is an all inclusive, non-partisan group with members throughout Saint Lucia working to:

– Increase participation in local democracy;
– Inspire individuals in our community to become informed about local issues; and
– To support accessibility, transparency and accountability in our government.

The Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia group is motivated by the belief that every government decision affects our lives in a multitude of ways and most times in long term ways, that also affect the lives of our children and generations to come.

Our immediate concerns are the recent announcements of:
• The $2.6 Billion DSH Project/Investment for the south of the country (Vieux Fort);
• The subsequent addition of a Causeway linking Maria Islets to the mainland; and
• The Dolphinarium earmarked for the Pigeon Island National Landmark, in Gros-Islet.

As concerned citizens, the group is not against investments that will bring levels of improvements in the lives and livelihoods of Saint Lucians, but are also mindful that investments cannot be haphazard or unsustainable; they must involve dialogue with all parties. The group is also concerned by the lack of citizen participation in the national dialogue on these two projects.

WHISTLE STOP TOUR:

It is the goal of the Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia, that all Saint Lucians be aware and well informed about all aspects of these projects. To this end Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia is asking the public to join them on the Whistle Stop Tour scheduled for this Sunday April 23, 2017.

A Whistle Stop Tour is a form of citizens rally that passes through a planned route, but making many brief scheduled stops along the way in a number of communities, to share information on issues of concern, whether through distributed material or short speeches.

The Whistle Stop Tour will start promptly at 9:00 am from Massy-Mega at Choc and will cover the Northern region which will include the Castries basin. The assembly is at 8:00 am. The tour will end promptly at 6:00 pm at Serenity Park, Sans Soucis, Castries.

T-shirts and other promotional items will be on sale. Participants must be self sustained, and must walk with their own drinks, water and food and provide their own transportation.

EMPOWERMENT

The Concerned Citizens of Saint Lucia group, believes that as informed, empowered and engaged citizens, we can work together to bring about positive change in our country. The organizing committee has devised a strategy for undertaking this challenge.

The Whistle Stop Tour is one of several activities planned over the next few months and will also include a series of public lectures and discussions, media interventions, and the preparation of a portfolio of information resources and educational materials which will be distributed continuously.

  3. Full of shit. These ppl are not different to the government. As everyone can see things are messed up in st.lucia and if those ppl were really concerned they would be offering T-shirts for free but instead found a way to exploit the ppl even more

  4. Concerned Citizens About Their Party. That's what it is. There's always some "concerned citizens" group formed anytime the SLP is in opposition, but it is soon discontinued as soon as they are voted back in power. I wonder why??

  5. lucian we need to put our heads together and analize things because we make those stupid and uneducated comments. At this point we need to move away from party politics and look at that proposal, see what is in it for the betterment of our country, demand what we want and rejeck what we think will be detementral to us in the future.
As a citizen of st lucia i personal think there should be more consulatation with the people of st lucia. Govermnents do not own the country, the people elected them to serve and that dicatictorship attitude at is being presented on the government side should stop and work wlth the people to get the best possible deal for the citizen of st LUcia. NO man is an Island.

  6. We live in a wonderfully functional democracy and, if we each so choose, have to the choice of not proxying our views to be potentially misrepresented through the so-called Concerned Citizens group.

Based on the information publicly available to date, they have not shown themselves to be transparent, despite their seemingly ill-informed use of the term "governance" in who is funding them and who the back-room, behind the scenes, seeming 'puppet-masters' steering it are.

Rather, instead we have the choice of directly contacting our elected officials by voice, in person, Facebook/social-media, and e-mail to let them know what each and everyone what our individual opinions are, and not be diluted through a populist movement.

It is up to each and every one of us to directly engage our elected officials and provide our input to the dialogue and decisions taken.

As voters, each has a voice and each has their unique value to add in where our nation goes and what nation we will leave for our children.

  7. A noble purpose, and we'll see how long the "non-partisan" slogan sticks. It won't. Just read the way the "press release" is written.

I find it interesting that the three present focuses are on controversial projects with a strong environmental aspects that the SLP has gone yap-yap-yap about.

    Who exactly are the founders?

If I was to bet, it would be that the founders are a silent splinter group of the National Trust, spurred on and backed by the SLP for their own selfish purposes, since examination of the text of the excuse for a so-called "press release" shows the writing to be very, very similar to past releases and literally lifts text from past material.

Also, given their stated mission, where is crime, safety, security and justice in the priorities? It is strangely, and somewhat disturbingly not in their top three areas of focus.

    Pappy-show and bayteeze, nothing more.

  8. Kenny's Rabid dog person

THIS WILL BE SEEN AS AN SLP PROPAGANDA DRIVE, WHICH IT IS. THERE IS NO PERMANENT FLAMBEAU ON THE TOUR. SO BASICALLY THIS GROUP IS A LABOUR PARTY PROXY AND THIS WHISTLE STOP IS SPONSORED BY ALL THAT JUFALLI MONEY WHICH IS STILL LYING THERE COMMOTOSE, ALMOST LIKE IT WAS BLIGHTED. THAT JUFALLI MONEY HAS A MOHDIHSIOHN AND WILL CONTINUE TO BRING THE LABOUR PARTY TO RUIN. DOES JUFFALI'S DAUGHTER OWN A ST. LUCIAN PASSPORT SINCE HER FATHER DID? CAN THIS GROUP ADDRESS THIS ON THE WHISTLE TOUR? AND LASTLY...PLEASE....PLEASE...DO NOT MAKE CALIXTE GEORGE JUNIOR THE FACE OF THIS TOUR. DUDE IS INCAPABLE OF GARNERING ANY SUPPORT....IN FACT, MAKE HIM THE FACE OF IT....GO AHEAD...PUT THE LABOUR PARTY PEOPLE WHO GOT THE BIG SALARIES THAT THEY NO LONGER GET AS THE FACE OF THIS MOVEMENT!

    (11)(8)
    • If the Labour party got money from Jufali then does it not apply to the present government to admit how much money they got from DSH and the Dolphin psrk.

      (1)(1)
  9. I bet the mouthers residing on island who make the most noise on social media will make some excuse not to show, makes me wonder if they are just making noise for opposing sake.

    (7)(2)
  10. I bet the mouthers residing on island who make the most noise on social media will make some excuse not to show.

    (0)(1)
  11. Meh... waste of time. I bet the mouthers who make the most noise on social media will make some excuse not to show. In my opinion they should just let the damn thing roll because:

    Scenarios
    - Developer Leaves Due to Major Opposition
The young people and Flambeaus will blame the anti DSH faction and start with all their what could have beens. Kenny gets blamed.

    - Predicted Negative Effects on Environment are Realised
    Project Fails
The young people will will agitate and blame the Government and the anti- DSH for lack of effort. Flambeaus will buy out moo moo pills and those who got none will blame Kenny by saying Grynberg was worse to distract the angry mob.
    Project Succeeds
Young people will not care if the area always flooding, wave action and storm surge bursting their tail or the sea stinks as long as they get a job, if the pay is good enough they will even say they like it so. Flambeaus will still find a way to mention Gryneburg.

Endemic Species are Extinct or on Verge Extinction
Young people don't care because the lizards and snakes can't employ them but no worries Chinese will probably breed them for sale as exotic pets making some extra ching ching on our heads.

    (3)(5)
  12. its not about more support for the UWP or SLPs its about educating the masses. What is wrong with that. The pros for DSH it will bring jobs that has been said countless times but some parts of the proposals its disturbing. Please read it and please the response of the government.

    (9)(0)
  13. I have a few questions;
DSH. Has anyone outlined the Pro's & Cons's of this project because all i'm hearing are the con's.
Why is this project so politicized, why can't this be for St. Lucia.
Those persons protesting how much have you invested in this Island?
What risk have you taken? how many young people do you employ?
Do we want the thousands of young adults leaving school each year to depend on government to hire them into the public sector on the backs of tax paying st Lucians?

I am so sick and tired of those who have their own agenders using others to fulfill their selfish greed.

Are we not tired of seeing our brothers suffer?

We need employment in this country.

    Here is my wish from DSH;

All construction material purchased from local business if available
All labour must be local with the exception of specialized skills not available locally
All parks and beaches remain for public use

    (10)(1)
    • It is true we need investment to address the unemployment problem in the country. But what is the point in expending the country's energies and raising the hope of citizens when the days of this proposed dolphin park are numbered even before its constructed. I say this because the trend around the world is for these facilities to bow to public pressure and shut down. Its only early this week seaworld in Orlando announced it will be closing citing public protest. In light of this why build one here when this could negatively affect tourism as that same public could not only boycott the country as tourists but put other types of international pressures on the country.

What these protesters are saying is simply this if you doing something do it right. Exercise some prudence. The last this we want for the country is for the project to have a very short life then also suffer the loss of our conservation credentials in a world which is increasingly becoming very sensitive to animal cruelty.

      (5)(0)
    • Then list the cons. Also read about Chinese funded projects in Sri Lanka, Bahamas, Guyana and Suriname. The Chinese never live up to any agreements. Further more why must our passports or patrimony be used to pay for DSH.

      (2)(0)
      • a similar search canbe done for projects funded by any country and you will see issues, some projects fail irrespective of where the funding is sourced. Le Paridis was privately funded, by banks and personal assets, it failed and we are still seeing the impacts of its failure......however the Dominicans will praise the chinese for new roads and other infrastructure.....nothing is a given my ppl

        (0)(0)
  14. If one of the names I see here is the same as one who posts on CAP, then lady wheel and come again.
Because some of your behavior and utterances can best be described as hypocritical, cantankerous and downright childish.
    AND A MASSIVE TURNOFF.
You can disagree with things, but your manner of doing it is extremely childish.
BTW it builds more support for Chastanet. Learn from the SLP hacks.

Now I suggest that you'll go back to the drawing board.
