Football resumed at La Clery Playing Field on Sunday. The Walter Joseph tournament – named after the founding coach of La Clery club, Strugglers – is expected to run over a five-week period and has six participating teams. In the opening game, Dax United and Hustlerz played to a 1-1 draw. Ten-man Hustlerz took the lead midway in the second half with a smart tap in by Shawn Collins. However, constant pressure by Dax United resulted in a corner kick which was brilliantly headed into the back of the net by Kacy Charles. The next game for the Walter Joseph Trophy takes place on Tuesday with La Clery All Stars taking on Bisee.

Alva Baptiste Super Cup (Laborie)

Football competition heated up over the weekend as the semifinals approach. On Saturday, Alez defeated The Boys 1-0 with a late winner while on Sunday Pascal Joseph improved their chances of qualifying with a convincing 4-0 victory over Radix from La Haut.

After this weekend’s fixtures, heading the points table is Young Strikers with 16 points from 7 games which should guarantee them a place in the semifinals.
The other three semifinal places are being keenly contested by Alez with 11 points (three games to play); Herbalist (10 points, two remaining games); Bay Classics of Augier (10 points, three games remaining); Pascal Joseph (8 points, two games).

Alez, Bay Classics and Pascal Joseph still have games remaining against teams at the bottom of the table. Herbalist is under the most pressure to qualify as they cannot afford to lose any of their remaining two matches which are against top teams Alez and Bay Classics.

The Laborie Youth and Sports Revitalization Committee will be getting the James Walker Ettiene Knock Out Cup underway immediately after the conclusion of the Alva Baptiste Super Cup.
