Combined Schools capture Division 1 basketball title; VBCC force game three in Premier League action

PRESS RELEASE – Combined Schools are again the champions of Division 1 basketball after they defeated Micoud Hustlerz 58-49, closing out the three-game series 2-0 in the KFC National Basketball League.

Another comeback win for the Schools team who had to overcome a 12-point first-quarter deficit which Micoud led 18-6.

At the half, Micoud clinged onto a 26-23 lead. The second half was all Combined Schools as they came out the half-time interval with a 21-point third quarter to take the lead 44-36 and take full control with great poise down the stretch to earn themselves a successful title repeat.

Congratulations to Combined Schools, Division 1 champions in the KFC Nationam Basketball League.

KFC Player of the Game Slyvan Louisien led all scores with 14 points and grabbed 8 rebs for Schools. Canaan St. Catherine had 13 points and 5 rebs for Micoud.

Meanwhile, VBCC Warlords forced a game three in the other final in Premier League basketball over defending champions Courts Jets.

An impressive and balanced scoring effort for the Warlords helped them to a valuable 53-41 win in a low-scoring game.

The Warlords raised their defensive intensity in the second half, limiting Courts Jets to a season-low four-points third quarter and 16 points overall in the second half.

Four players reached double figures for VBCC led by KFC Player of the Game Marcian Calderon with 13 points, 13 rebs and 5 steals. Keegan Preville had 11 points and 7 rebs for the Jets in their loss.

Game three of that series will be Saturday, June 28 at the Beausejour Indoor Facility from 8 p.m.. But first at 6  p.m., an exhibition game tips off between the SLBF’s Select 12 vs. Division 1 champions Combined Schools.
