Club GAR aiming for $10,000 for cadet corps

St. Lucia News Online/Andrews Media Services Corp. has thrown its support behind Club GAR’s 2014 Walk 4 a Cause.

Club GAR will try to raise $10,000 through the walk to take place on June 1.

The club spearheads the activity annually as a fundraising drive for a group making a positive impact on the youth of the country. This year, Club GAR has chosen the cadet corps.

The target is expected to be met through registration for the walk and sale of raffle tickets for a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

St. Lucia News Online/Andrews Media Services Corp’s sponsorship comes as management is very concerned about youth development. Managing director of Andrews Media Services Corp. Merrick Andrews said, “At a time when the country is riddled with reports of crime, more initiatives to influence young people to do positive things should be organised.”

Club GAR believes that it can help shape young people into upstanding citizens by pushing messages of discipline, accountability, engagement, responsibility and reliability.

Sixty cadet corps members should be walking as well.

Registration is open at Steve’s Barber Shop, Blue Monkey (Rodney Bay Mall) and Radio Caribbean International at a cost of $15 (walk only) and $20 (walk and raffle ticket). A raffle ticket costs $5.

The route for the walk starts from Vigie Roundabout to Club GAR, Bois d’Orange (ground floor Vel’s Gym).

Each participant receives a t-shirt, bottle of water and a healthy treat.

  1. Nice to see that SLU News Online is involved in something like this; and not all 'ro-ro'. Hats off to the organizers of this Walk; during these increasingly difficult times, we need more private citizens and organizations to step in. We also need more of our men to step up and be men in this way. Good job Merrick. I'm in!
