PRESS RELEASE – The Club des Gommiers Boat Race 2015 will be heading to Saint Lucia on Friday 18th December after starting off from Martinique at 9.00 a.m.

This year’s race will include 6 Gommiers boats and 10 Paddling Canoes with a total of 100 participants in the Martinique Saint Lucia crossing.

The first boat is expected to reach the Gros Islet Waterfront at 12.00 p.m. Upon the arrivals of the boats, a welcome ceremony organized by the Gros Islet Constituency Council and the Saint Lucia Tourist Board will be held at the Gros Islet Waterfront, with addresses by the Mayor for Gros Islet Ms. Alison King, the Minister for Tourism Hon. Lorne Theophilus, the French Ambassador Mr. Eric De La Moussaye, followed by the Hon Emma Hippolyte, District Representative for Gros Islet.

There are several activities planned including a Cultural Exchange on Friday December 18th, a Regatta on Saturday December 19th 2015 which starts at 3:00 p.m., at the Gros Islet Waterfront culminating with the awards of prizes later that evening.

The Club des Gommiers Boat Race is in its 21st year and the participants are looking forward to this year’s race. The participants will return to Martinique on Sunday 20th December 2015.

The Gros Islet Constituency Council would also like to express its gratitude and thanks to the Saint Lucia Tourist Board and all other organizations for their contributions in making this event a great success.
