SLP General Secretary Leo Clarke

Despite criticisms about the Citizenship by Investment Programme (CIP), Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) General Secretary Leo Clarke said it will create many opportunities for the island.

Clarke has said that CIP will generate major employment and lower the current unemployment levels, something he claims the government has already stabilized.

But Clarke said politicians such as Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Allen Chastanet have been making reckless statements that could potentially hurt the programme.

He said Chastanet is afraid that the CIP will produce positive economic growth and as a result, people will see the benefits and the UWP wouldn’t stand a chance of winning the next elections.

The SLP official boasted that his party has better Saint Lucia’s reputation on the regional and international stage, stating that the previous administration was embroiled in several scandals.

He said the SLP has also created good governance, under the astute management of SLP leader and Prime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony and his Cabinet of Ministers.

  1. How many times do we have to try to get into your thick skull that SLP can no longer and ever again be trusted with anything that has to do with the future well-being of this country? Are you that obtuse?

  2. When the political coarseness of this so-called party is supported by supine, servile, spineless lily-livered eunuchs. One of those in your face representatives of this group of political maggots is more than I can take.

  3. I don't like the CIP, but Labour has always been the better party...Kenny must go though, he has hijacked Labour.

    (18)(3)
    • WE ARE ALL CONCERNED IN EARNEST

Labour has always been a better party on paper just like the west indies team but just dont have what it takes to perform. Their personal wealth takes precedence over the people they serve.

      • We are all concerned about having an earnest administration. Shall we be getting one? From the looks of it, that does not look at all very likely. That Saudi moolah. That Saudi moolah. That Saudi moolah! Hmmmm. I tell you ....

    • Saint Lucia has too many yes-men in BOTH main parties. This lack of a back bone is the hallmark of the party faithful in both main parties. They do not ex el in an particular field.

Besides this, they are not technically capable in no other field than probably standing in front of a class. That represents the sum total of their expertise --- with a little community development officer work thrown in, to mask their tunnel vision of the world outside their homes.

The country is being ruined by government people --- both in the public service and in elected government --- with little or no skills to match the increasing demands of international developments in trade and technology.

  6. Simple questions.

Do St. Lucians want CIP? What did the government's survey suggest and what did the opposition's survey determine?

    Assuming they did conduct surveys.

If no surveys were done why are we at this point already anyway!!

  7. Mr Clarke, you've just lost the little respect I had left for you as a Politician. Do you think St Lucians are STUPID!

Come on now Politicians (Red, Yellow and or Green) stop taking your EMPLOYERS for fools.

I'll try not to reiterate some of valid comments already made here example "Sar Chaud."

"Politicians such as Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Allen Chastanet have been making reckless statements"

Didn't Mr Anthony when in opposition go around advising potential investors not to invest in St Lucia!

"your party has bettered Saint Lucia’s reputation on the regional and international stage" not from where I sit, every other day an article in reputable British Newspapers (not The Sun or The Star) questioning your Party's appointment of Mr Juffali.

The list can be ellaborated on.

"People will see the benefits and the UWP wouldn’t stand a chance of winning the next elections." -

How many sign ups have we had on CIP?
Have there been any new businesses opened via CIP who are already employeeing St Lucians?
Isn't the next General elections due in a few months time!

So what benefits are you referring to prior to the next General Elections?

STOP taking St Lucians for FOOLS that's meant for BOTH Political parties...

    (38)(2)
  8. DELUSIONAL. These guys don't have a brain to think for themselves.

  9. Very true Statement Clarke. I am eagerly waiting to see the benefits. Words into action.

  12. So answer me this , doesn't the benefits of the CIP start show within next year or two. Partner we need an increase in employment from yesterday . this is the plan give jobs to our young people , this is the Master Plan . Mr .Clarke do you even believe what you are saying .

Sadly the previous so called uneducated PM looks like genius compared to the bunch of fools .

    (41)(1)
  13. To be honest Mr. Clarke we are just tired, tired of all the false promises and the failed policies. RIGHT now we are busy, busy hustling to make a living to pay for all the heavy taxes that This Labour Government has imposed on us. I just had to pay an extra $200.00 To pay for vehicle registration.

Everything has gone up and monies collected are not accounted for. Why are you trying to deceive us.

You are only interested in capital projects such as roads and bridges cause that is allegdely where you can get paid in padded up contracts and then again govt allegedly give contracts only to connected friends benefit.

All the other businesses are hurting because one man is buying and selling from himself. So please tell us who will benefit from CIP?

    (50)(1)
  14. I wonder if Leo really believes what he is saying? I believe the guy has a half-decent brain and he is in a position to know better. Against public support, Kenny and his misfits are determined to force CIP down the throats of St. Lucians. By now it should be patently clear to all that the public is against it. The signs are all there...only hardcore red shirts are talking positively about it.

This CIP program is just another big bust that will further tarnish home. The ingredients for investing has a lot to be desired. The goal should be to improve the climate (better ease of doing business). Undo the bureaucracy, reduce crime, tax incentives...these are among the factors that will get you to the goal line.

Advice: Think big and less of these silly programs like CIP. Their risks is not worth their rewards

    (41)(1)
  15. General secretary I would like to know what they have done to stabilize the economy. U kept on saying they have done. Done what?

    (22)(0)
  16. VWAY! This whole article made me LOL...

"Clarke has said that CIP will generate major employment and lower the current unemployment levels, something he claims the government has already stabilized." - VWAY!?

"But Clarke said politicians such as Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Allen Chastanet have been making reckless statements that could potentially hurt the programme." - So, everything happening with Jufali on the WORLD STAGE isn't hurting the "programme"? Our little island in HEADLINES every day isn't RECKLESS? Mr. Clarke, please give me a break.

    Sincerely,
    A sick and TIRED lucian.

  17. Wait a minute, is this guy for real?????
You'll have the audacity to pen such NONSENSE.
Take your stone age political crap back to the cave. It is time you'll realize that some people are not so simple minded.

Can you guys let us know why such close knit friends are involved and part of the CIP process????? One of the authorized agents, is it headed by the current speaker of the house????? Have you ever heard of willful blindness and conflict on interest?????
And you tell me Chastanet making reckless statements to hurt the program?????
You'll have already started hurting it.

The regions you'll will be targeting, North Africa, Middle East, isn't that a cause of concern given all the terrorism the world is currently facing?????

    Question:
Do you guys honestly believe that a business man in good standing would want to just give up his own citizenship to become a St.Lucian citizen??????
You guys know very well is shady characters that would be seeking citizenship from poor third world countries.

I have no doubt this atrocity aka CIP will bring in some money BUT is the long term negative effects which might involve the mighty US who will no doubt do all what they need to do to protect their borders (you'll better hope to that a Republican is not the next US president.)

    (24)(0)
  18. Leo Clarke get off that crap. Let me make this clear Leo, genuine and honest business persons looking for returns on their investments, only crooked and corrupt foreign business persons with baggage to hide will want a St.Lucian passport on their investment.

    (14)(0)
  19. Red unlimited staffing CIP. Stabilize employment for who? Y'all boys and girls?

    (40)(0)
  20. I have never seen a bunch of people willing to allegedly sell their country and turn us to second class citizens like this administration .

Leo is just a puppet that cannot survive outside politics so will defend anything his boss does.

When you talk about creating jobs for us you sound worst than kenny telling us about a diabetic research center .

Stop thinking that st.lucians are stupid and this kind of politics cannot work and will not work in 2016 !!

What the people want to hear is development for locals and putting money in locals hands to pursue their dreams and make st.lucia economy turn once again, by the hands of st.lucians.

Stop trying to turn us to second class citizen and selling sweet Helen to the highest bidder and then force us into modernize slavery to work for those foreigners .

    (47)(0)
    • Politics is surely destroying us as a nation. Every initiative has to be assulted by one side or the other. Do some research and you will realize how CIP has helped some very successful countries, especially Canada.

      (0)(10)
  21. WE ARE ALL CONCERNED IN EARNEST

Yeah just like VAT would have cured our woes smh

    (34)(0)
  22. St Lucians are foolish? Government is just giving these rich middle east people a place to run to from the war invested countries.

They will just come and buy our land, which the government has made impossible for us to purchase.

    History will repeat itself.

Like the Europeans came and conquer the american lands from the native Indians, so will those from the middle will conquer our land. Time will tell.

    (36)(0)
  23. Thanks Leo Clarke for confirming that CIP is what the SLP is hoping to happen in order to win the next general elelctions.

Leo don't care about the negative cost of CIP. The only thing the ppl like him care about is maintaining Kenny in power at the cost of the country.

But check yourself because SLP had already lost you just dont know that yet!!!

    (70)(1)
  24. Kenny can't talk so he is sending the dogs to bark

    (47)(2)
  25. with all due respect Mr. Clarke, and I think you are a lovely person, HOWEVER....................... Have you look at what a normal honest above board business person looks at when they want to enter into a new market to operate business or to own assets;

    1. a fair judicial system
    2. Political stability
    3. Levels of crime
    4. The level of transparency when doing business and dealing with government bodies
    5. Availibility of professional services
    6. Integrity of the country's leaders
And the list goes one.........so far St.Lucia has failed tremendously to satisfy the above list. So who would we be attracting with our failed systems, people you are comfortable with failed systems as it works and their favor? People who pay to get their way? People who join the lack of transparency because it works for them.
Mr. Clarke, before you can begin to see this program work for the country i.e growth wise for jobs and the economy as a whole, please address the issues at hand, because TOO LATE SHALL BE YOUR CRY! St. Lucia is full of intellectuals who could have come to the table and come up with a better idea to increase foreign direct investment, not FOLLOW FASHION, You have an offshore industry that has not even touched its true potential, sit and revisit what you can do look at your legislation, look at the countries who get it right and have gotten it right for many many years and use these models instead of looking at temporary fixes......BE PROACTIVE NOT REACTIVE!
