Christmas message from Hon. Emma Hippolyte

Minister Hyppolite

I wish to extend my best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to my Gros Islet constituents, the business community, everyone here in Saint Lucia and to our extended global family all over the world.

Christmas for us is a joyful time where families  and friends come together to enjoy the festive season; I am aware that, for some of you, this year may be a Christmas where unemployment, financial insecurity or the absence of a loved one now living abroad may cast a dark shadow. For many others, it may be a sad time due to illness or family bereavement. I pray that you find comfort in Psalm 91:11 which says “For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways”.

I am confident that as a Saint Lucian people, our resilience, fortitude and wisdom will move us beyond any discontent and instead show us how to use our capacity and determination to propel a renewed force for an optimistic future. I therefore urge you to remain steadfast and see opportunities to be innovative and resourceful.

Let us renew ourselves in social solidarity and through co-operation and togetherness show practical concern and love for each other, particularly  the less fortunate and more vulnerable among us. Let us share our bread with someone.

In this festive season let us exercise a keen measure of patience and responsibility. Let us be more tolerant and less aggressive. Allow us to harness our indigenous habits of the bamboo bursting, sorrel making, caroling and many more to further enrich our society.

I am confident that, drawing on our shared strengths and our ethical values, we will continue to build a sustainable and strong economy, at the same time building a just and inclusive society that ensures the participation of all its citizens.

We are a country with much to be proud of, whose possibilities are endless, and whose people I am honoured to serve.

I wish my people of Gros islet town, Rodney Bay, Piate, Desrameaux, Degazon, Grande Riviere, Marisule, Monchy, La Borne, Riviere Mitant, Vieux Secure, Ravine Macock, Inglewoods, Morne Serpent, Corinth, Bonne Terre, Asur Canal, Bousejour, Cap Estate and you a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

May the Almighty bless us and keep us safe.
