TELEGRAPH – Chris Gayle has come under fire after appearing to ask a female cricket presenter out on a date live on air.

The West Indies batsman had just finished his innings for the Melbourne Renegades in their Big Bash League game with Hobart Hurricanes.

Having starred with a blistering 41 off of just 15 balls in the Renegades’ successful run-chase, Ten Sport’s Melanie McLaughlin grabbed a few words with the main man.

Responding to McLaughlin’s questions on Gayle’s approach to the innings the batsman said: “I just wanted to have an interview with you as well, that’s why I batted so well.”

With McLaughlin visibly unsettled by Gayle’s comments, the big Jamaican added: “Your eyes are beautiful, hopefully we can win this game and then we can have a drink after as well. Don’t blush baby.”

  1. if it was a white man in the shoe if Chris Gayle it would have sound like a god's blessing and an inviting moment be be with some great.
But a black man asking a Lilly white girl out is a curse or a sin.

  2. it's unprofessional. Bad timing wrong place. Caribbean men are too sexist and this isn't amusing to everyone. No matter how well you played you're uncouth. Doesn't hurt to be professional

  3. Gayle is the man of thee hour? What kind of fooliness is that? We like to cover up when something such as sexual advancement is not appropriate in this particular event. How can you viciously made a pass at someone on thee opening as everyone can listened to your private fantasies? You are coming to a former racist country degrading black people in such a manner. As a Caribbean national who lives in Australia as I speak this is an embarrassment to all black men across the board. Australians are more comfortable with such gestures when they are in a pub having a drink or if they are at a party socialising and getting to know you regardless being a stranger. They can often bring themselves to you without you asking. As a man you have to wait on where you are attacking for love. Not on television unless it's a soap opera. That was stupid for Chris Gayle to do. Am sure he already has a girlfriend in Jamaica. Cheating, cheating which shows you what Caribbean men are used too. Even,in England the Jamaican's are fighting among themselves over white women. So,what goes around comes around and stopped making excuses for other people because they are of the same colour skin as we do.Sexism can be seen based on our unsatisfied behaviour when we already have a wife or girlfriend. We want more and more women like King Solomon.

  4. where there is nothing wrong with him asking her out on a date....what makes this tasteless is that he is doing it at a time where he is expected to portray some level of professionalism and maturity. it clearly shows his lack of understanding that he is now an ambassador to a region of people and his actions must always be professional.

    • If Chris Gayle had said, “Your eyes are beautiful, hopefully we can win this game and then we can have a drink after as well. Don’t blush baby.” to a burly male presenter you would quickly change your tune! It wouldn’t be sexism but homosexual flirtation and you certainly wouldn’t shoot your mouth off with praise!

In this enlightened times, respect from one professional to another was not adhered to.

Next time, send a goat to interview him!

  7. He should have asked her for a date off-camera then she would have blushed. Chris and his abrasive Gayle-force style.

    • That's the homo agenda. Don't let the kids be exposed to normal male/female relations on TV. But expose them to all homo crap.
