Center of Kirk approaching Saint Lucia (TROPICAL STORM KIRK… ADVISORY #14)

….CENTER OF KIRK APPROACHING SAINT LUCIA….

A TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR SAINT LUCIA, BARBADOS, MARTINIQUE, DOMINICA AND GUADELOUPE. A TROPICAL STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES.

AT 8:00 P.M. TODAY, THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM KIRK WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 13.9 NORTH, LONGITUDE 60.7 WEST OR 15 MILES OR 25 KM EAST OF SAINT LUCIA. THIS SYSTEM IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MPH OR 22 KM/H. ON THIS FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTRE WILL MOVE OVER SAINT LUCIA AS A TROPICAL STORM TONIGHT.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 50 MPH OR 85 KM/H WITH HIGHER GUSTS. A WEST-NORTHWESTWARD TO WESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. ON THE FORECAST TRACK, THE CENTER OF KIRK WILL MOVE ACROSS THE LESSER ANTILLES WITHIN THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING AREA DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS. LITTLE CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS EXPECTED WHILE THE CENTER OF KIRK MOVES THROUGH THE LESSER ANTILLES. GRADUAL WEAKENING IS ANTICIPATED DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS WHILE THE SYSTEM MOVES OVER THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN SEA.

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 140 MILES (220 KM) FROM THE CENTER.

SEAS ARE ROUGH AND SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS AND LOCAL FISHERMEN ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO REMAIN IN PORT TONIGHT AND TOMORROW MORNING.

RESIDENTS ARE ADVISED TO STAY AWAY FROM COASTAL AREAS. RESIDENTS AND MOTORISTS IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING AND LANDSLIDES SHOULD TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS AGAINST THESE HAZARDS.

RESIDENTS OF SAINT LUCIA AND THE REST OF THE EASTERN CARIBBEAN ISLANDS ARE ASKED TO CLOSELY MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS SYSTEM.

REPEATING THE 8:00 P.M. POSITION OF TROPICAL STORM KIRK, LATITUDE 13.9 NORTH, LONGITUDE 60.7 WEST OR 15 MILES OR 25 KM EAST OF SAINT LUCIA.

KIRK IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MPH OR 22 KM/H.

THE NEXT ADVISORY WILL BE ISSUED AT 11:00 PM LOCAL TIME.
