(PRESS RELEASE) – In celebration of International Women’s Day, for the past 5 years, Celestial Self Development Centre has joined countries around the world by serving as a local flag bearer for Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk.

The Global Mentoring Walk – a nonprofit activity – is designed to bring together established women leaders and emerging women leaders to provide mentorship, guidance and support that will empower emerging women leaders to succeed. The walk serves an opportunity to highlight the importance of women’s leadership, and to accelerate the impact of future women leaders through mentoring. The benefits of women’s mentorship are numerous. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Celestial SDC however, will not be hosting this global activity this year (2020).

International Women’s Day, which falls on Sunday 08th March of this year, is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political contributions of women around the world. International Women’s Day serves as a call to action to close the gap between progress and potential, in order to accelerate gender parity globally. The mentoring walk will be held globally on Saturday 07th March, 2020 under the theme “An equal world is an enabled world”.

This year’s theme highlights the belief that “Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.” In line with this, Celestial SDC would like to encourage former participants who served as mentors and mentees to reflect on the mentoring relationships formed, contact their mentees, cement the relationships formed over the years and continue to support and empower each other.

We thank all our mentors, mentees, Department of Gender Relations and sponsors for their continued support throughout the years and their determination to foster the empowerment of women. We look forward with your support to hosting the Vital Voices Global Mentoring Walk in 2021.
