unnamed-6PRESS RELEASE – On Saturday 11th March 2017 from 3:00pm, Saint Lucian Women leaders will join thousands of women around the world who will be celebrating International Women’s Day.

Celestial Self Development Centre for the third time will be partnering with Vital Voices Global Leadership Network (GLN) through their signature event – Global Mentoring Walk.

This year we will be joined by Life In Leggings: Caribbean Alliance Against Gender-based Violence as they do their Feminine Solidarity March.

Feminine Solidarity March is a civil society led regional march organised by Life In Leggings: Caribbean Alliance Against Gender-based Violence.

Vital Voices Global Partnership is the leading non-governmental organization (NGO) that identifies, invests in and brings visibility to extraordinary women around the world by unleashing their leadership potential to transform lives and accelerate peace and prosperity in their communities. Its international staff and team of over 1,000 partners, pro bono experts and leaders, including senior government, corporate and NGO executives, have trained and mentored more than 14,000 emerging women leaders from over 144 countries in Asia, Africa, Eurasia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East since 1997. These women have in turn trained and mentored more than 500,000 additional women and girls in their communities.

There will be 130 Mentoring Walks to take place in 62 countries worldwide. A total of 17,000 women are estimated to participate in this global event.

We invite established women leaders to register as Mentors: women with professional expertise and experience that qualifies her to offer sound opinions or advice to someone who is less experienced. We want to encourage business women and professionals to come join us and “Pay it Forward”. And young emerging women leaders to register as a Mentees: young women who are often less experienced and desires guidance and advice from a more established female leader.

Reclaim Our Streets: Feminine Solidarity March is a civil society led regional march organised by Life In Leggings: Caribbean Alliance Against Gender-based Violence.

This march is based in Barbados, Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, The Bahamas, Guyana and Jamaica. The intention of this march is to be a stepping stone in creating support systems that educate the public about the trauma caused by sexual abuse and ways in which the community can come together to prevent abuse, protect and create conditions in which victims of abuse can be healed.

The social media campaign #LifeInLeggings created a safe space for thousands of women in the Caribbean to share their stories online of sexual violence without fear of ridicule or shame. This project encourages civil society to further stand in solidarity with the survivors of sexual violence.

Women who are interested in joining the march are asked to dress in leggings along with orange/purple clothing and accessories for the march.

The Global Mentoring Walk is a non-profit and sponsored event. Sponsors are: The Beacon, 1st National Bank, St. Lucia Electricity Services (LUCELEC), Elks City of Castries Co-operative Credit Union, Financial Investment & Consultancy Services Ltd. (FICS) and Massy Stores Supermarket.

We propose to begin the walk at Celestial Self Development Centre, 99 Chaussee Road, opposite the Anglican Primary School at 3 pm. Contact [email protected] or 453-1924 to register.
