CDF hosts Junior Panorama 2013

The Cultural Development Foundation (CDF) will be hosting its 7th year of Junior Panorama on Sunday, April 28, 2013 on the grounds of the National Cultural Centre from 3 p.m.

Junior Panorama was first introduced by the CDF in 2004 with five bands participating. Over the years, CDF has provided opportunities for training young people in the art form from various communities including Laborie, Vieux Fort, Micoud, Babonneau and  Castries, respectively.

Following a one-year sponsored project with UNESCO, hundreds of young people between the ages of seven to 20 years benefited from the introduction of pan playing.

In preparation for this junior steel pan competition, CDF provided many hours of training for a number of young arrangers, including music lovers.

Every participating band embraced the opportunity and attended the sessions regularly with facilitator Alison Marquis. CDF is of the opinion that programmes of this nature is an alternative for delinquency and has a positive impact of individual behaviours.

This year, Lime Diamond Steel, winner of 2012, will be competing with six other bands including:
Harmonites Steel Orchestra,
Laborie Steel Orchestra,
Courts Babonneau Steel Orchestra,
Caribbean Metals Pantime Steel Orchestra,
Pantastic Muzik Steel Orchestra,
Assumption Knights – Youth in Action

The bands will each present a warm up tune and test piece of their choice. Each will be presenting local tunes.
